FRESH START TEAM &
SALVATION SPOTTERS
Welcome to the Team!
A message from our Pastor - Alex Tan
OUR VISION
MORE PEOPLE BECOMING MORE LIKE JESUS
Jesus' last words are our first priority.
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
(Matthew 28:18-20 | The Great Commission)
As a church, we exist to see souls saved and disciples made. We exist to see more people becoming more like Jesus.
This statement speaks of multiplication and discipleship; it is a mission to expand our community, not just in numbers, but in the depth of our faith. We're committed to reaching more of the coast and extending the invitation to experience the transformative power of Jesus' teachings. Simultaneously, we're focused on deepening our understanding and embodiment of those teachings and fostering a community of disciples who reflect the love and grace of Jesus.
This is where you come in! How can you embody “more people becoming more like Jesus” this year?
Our values are who we are. They are not just what we do, but they are part of our DNA.
If the vision is the roof, the values are the pillars to support it and keep it strong.
Our values propel us toward our vision and guide all that we do.
This is the language we want to hear in every team rally, team meeting and team chat.
1 - JESUS IS OUR MESSAGE
We believe Jesus is God’s answer for the world.
We’re Jesus people and live to represent Him.
We believe one encounter with Jesus changes everything.
2 - PEOPLE ARE OUR HEART
We value people because God values people.
We choose to encourage, honour and love one another.
We are authentic, family focussed and make real connections.
We’re here to see people saved and make disciples.
We believe everyone can do something to reach others.
3 - SERVANTHOOD IS OUR ATTITUDE
We love serving the Lord together.
We are contributors, not consumers.
We choose to go the extra mile.
We serve generously with our time, talent and treasure.
OUR VALUES
Meet your Team Leader
Hi there! If we haven’t met yet, my name is Pastor Sharon, and I have the honour of leading our Fresh Start and Salvation Spotters teams here at hm.
First of all, you have been hand-picked. Jesus said in Gospel of Matthew 4:19, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” This ministry is significant, spiritual, and strategic.
You were invited because of your love for God, your love for people, and your growing maturity in Christ. Being invited to be on these teams is both a privilege and a responsibility.
Fresh Start is the ministry where we -
TEACH God’s Word and Ways and MENTOR people to become more like Jesus.
It is our first step in discipleship—where faith is established, foundations are laid, and God begins to transform lives! (Click the Essentials for serving to fully know what is required)
Salvation Spotters is the critical front end of the entire Fresh Start journey. Being a Salvation Spotter is not simply about observing a response; it is about partnering with the Holy Spirit in the most important decision a person will ever make.
We pray.
We watch.
We spot.
We gently guide.
Each Sunday, we position ourselves as watchmen—prepared, prayed up, united in spirit, and clear in mission: to see people saved and to help them feel safe, seen, and supported as they take their next step with Jesus.
As a team, we come with prepared hearts, because what is within us will overflow into others.
Please know, I am here for you—to support you, equip you, and pray with you as we serve together. I look forward to standing alongside you in both these ministries.
Ps Sharon Tan

Next Steps
-
Our onboarding process is designed to set you up for confidence and clarity as you step into one of the most significant moments in our Sunday services.
To get started, please review the following resources:
Key Salvation Moments
Helpful Hints for Ministry Conversations
From there, onboarding takes place over your first two times serving on the Salvation Spotters team.
You will serve alongside experienced Spotters, watching and learning:
Pre-service rally positioning and preparation
Assigned area positioning during the salvation call
How to move quietly and prayerfully during response moments
How to approach sensitively after the salvation prayer
How to use the Fresh Start book
Completing and handing in response cards correctly
You’ll have the opportunity to observe, ask questions, and gradually step into conversations with hands-on support.
You are considered fully onboarded when:
You are confident during salvation call moments
You can approach and support someone independently and sensitively
You understand how to use the Fresh Start resource clearly
You can complete response cards accurately
You are able to guide and support a new Spotter in the role
This ministry is significant, sensitive, and strategic and we want you to feel equipped, prepared, and confident as you serve.
-
We have a high feedback culture, and a culture of leading up. What this means is that communication is always two-way, we welcome any and all questions you may have, and encourage you to bring any issues, concerns, interests and more to our leaders.
Our leaders are equipped to answer your questions to the best of our ability, and will always be ready to support you.
Mentoring Training Pattern
This simple step-by-step pattern helps guide mentoring and discipleship. It moves from modeling to equipping, releasing, and multiplying.
1. I do — You watch — We talk (Modeling: I show, you observe, then we reflect)
2. I do — You help — We talk (Participation: You join in, then we reflect)
3. You do — I help — We talk (Practice: You take the lead, I support, then we reflect)
4. You do — I watch — We talk (Release: You lead, I observe, then we reflect)
5. You do — Someone else watches You talk (Multiplication: You mentor the next person)
This pattern can be used in marriage mentoring, discipleship, or leadership training to help others grow step by step.
-
Welcome to the team! We’re so excited to serve alongside you, grow with you, and get to know you better.
Our first step is simple, we want to understand you. We’ll learn about your skillsets, strengths, and availability, and then place you in a lane where you can thrive and make the greatest impact.
There’s always room to grow. If there’s an area you’d love to develop or a new skill you’re interested in learning, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to equip you and help you step into all that God has for you.
We’re so glad you’re part of the team.

Sunday Salvation SPOTTERS
1. Just before the end of the service when the altar call for Salvation is given, slip out of your seat discreetly and position yourself at the back or side of the room. Be observant, prayerful and watch those who respond to Salvation calls.
2. At the end of service approach & introduce yourself to an individual who responded. Have a Fresh Start Book and black & white Connect Card on you and say something like - Example: “Hi exchange NAMES! I'm part of the team and noticed you responded to the prayer at the end. How was that experience for you? (Fully LISTEN!) To help you in your faith walk - I’d love to give you a FRESH START Book - it’s a simple guide to help you in your faith journey.”
3. Find a quiet spot. Sit down - Connect: Stay Focused on Their Response. Assure them they’re not alone and that we as a church family are here to walk with them.
4. Walk them through the “Fresh Start” book, showing them how to use it - daily Bible reading. Eg- Say something like- “This is such a powerful moment. By responding today, you’ve opened your heart to Jesus, and that’s the first step in your journey. This book and Fresh Start group will help you learn more about Jesus, and how much He loves you. Can I pray with you?
5. Pray confidently asking God to be near as they begin a fresh start with Jesus. SMILE and NOD. This can be very overwhelming!
6. Because we want to support and strengthen them in their faith, ask for their details and write in the BLACK Card. Give them white card – explain more resources available on WHITE card on QRCode.
7. Invite them to return next Sunday and come early, 8;30am to be part of FRESH START group- a place where they will be supported and spiritually grow.
8. Ask if they have any questions? Be sensitive, they just might want to slip out of the room, or you could introduce them to others of similar age or offer to have a coffee with them. Your gentle presence could make all the difference in someone’s life!
9. Take a photo of black card and forward it to the Fresh Start coordinator, then hand the card to Ps Sharon & Graham
Your role is vital in helping new believers feel seen, supported, and encouraged as they begin their faith journey. Every interaction is an opportunity to reflect the love of Jesus and build His Church and see ‘More People Become More Like Jesus’

Rostering
Ezra Tan covers rosters in this video
Safety
Welcoming someone into a safe, peaceful environment is one of the most important ways we show care, especially for those who may be visiting church for the first time.
All volunteers should:
Know the emergency evacuation procedures
Know how to report incidents or hazards
Have their blue card linked to hm church
Follow Safe Ministry expectations.
Safety also means managing crowd flow, keeping entrances/exits accessible, using respectful boundaries in interactions, and being alert to spills or hazards. Team members may assist in emergencies, so remaining calm, observant, and caring is vital.
